Proyecto Chispa

Proyecto Chispa (which means "Project Spark" in Spanish) collects and recycles computers, cell phones and other electronics for free, and uses the resale from recycling the parts to purchase NEW computers for the Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH) homes for orphaned, abandoned and disadvantaged children in Latin America and the Caribbean. We hope the computers will be the “chispa” or spark the children need to continue learning and through education break the cycle of poverty. Create a spark! Support Proyecto Chispa!

Dr. Elizabeth O’Day, who sponsors a child named Abigail* at NPH Mexico, created Proyecto Chispa. After visiting Abigail, Dr. O’Day decided she wanted to increase access to technology for Liz and all the NPH children. “In order to be competitive in today’s society, NPH kids must be in tune with current technology. Chispa is helping them do that,” says Dr. O’Day.

In less than a year, Proyecto Chispa has sent over 90 computers to the NPH homes. Because of Chispa donations, NPH Mexico was able to increase its computer capacity by 400%. The immediate success of Chispa is readily apparent: NPH students can now do their homework, type reports, and play games, but what is truly unique about Chispa is that the long-term benefits of this program are limitless. All it takes is a spark! Support Proyecto Chispa!

Each year, Chispa will focus on one NPH home. This year, our goal is to raise $19,900 to build a “Chispa Learning Center” at NPH Domincan Republic. We hope to integrate computers and technology into the lives of the 231 children being raised there. Help us create a spark!
